Document Summary
Laomedon - recruits gods (poseidon, apollo) to help build the city and cheats then of their pay. He does this to herakles too, who kills him (theme: trojan bad faith) Son: priam (great king of the trojan war) Priam has 50 children, some by his wife hecuba. His son hector (meaning: "prop" or "buttress") is a great trojan warrior and defender of the city. He is the ideal greek man: strong, trustworthy, etc. Paris - meaning "pouch" (carried away from the palace in a pouch) Before his birth, hecuba dreams that she births a burning log that sets troy on fire. His parents decide to kill him to save the city from destruction. As usual in greek myth, they try to kill him in some convoluted way, and the child ends up surviving. Paris is "exposed on a mountainside" but survives (mt. Ida - not where zeus was born, the other one)
