The ionian revolt had been a success but only at first. Persians system had been working in the ionians favour because there was a lack of cohesion and teamwork between the persian provinces. The ionians also had the support from mainland greece. Sardis was captured by the ionians and burned to the ground. At the same time though, the persians started getting organised and the ionians started losing ground. *the ionians didn"t seem to care very much about their revolt so athens left asia minor. Darius i took things into his own hands and assembled an army and navy that would be commanded directly by him. At this time, aristagoras fled to thrace he was assassinated shortly after arriving there. Over the next couple years, the ionians were crushed on land and at sea. Miletus was recaptured by the persians and subsequently destroyed. The persians campaigned against a number of ionian cities, destroying a lot of them.
