In 500 the people of naxos exile their oligarchs and declare democracy. Aristagoras tries to take over- tyrant of miletus. He asks the persians for funding to take back. Naxos, and says the loot will pay them back, but he fails and so he doesn"t have any loot. Ionians burnt it to the ground, temple and all, which is a big deal at this ime. The athenians noice the ionians don"t really care about their own revolt so they ditch. With help of the athenians, sardis is invaded by ionians very early on. Meanwhile, darius starts to take maters into his own hands. 497 bc aristagoras led to thrace but is assassinated soon ater. Persians crushed ionians on land and on sea. 494 miletus captured and burned by persians- kind of a big deal. The only state to be spared is samos, because they betrayed the ionians at the last minute in one of their atacks against the persians.
