The spartans get a irst class leet, and it pays of in 406 when the ships are ready. In early 406 of the coast of noium, the athenian leet engaged the spartan leet, and on this occasion they lost. Alcibiades made some criical errors in his command, resulted in athenian loss. For athens, not a serious defeat, but naval supremacy not absolute. Alcibiades" relaionship with athens, already being fragile, really mucked this up. He ended up reiring, gave up his posiion as general, he did not go back to athens, but went to live in thrace. The spartans are emboldened by their success so they proceed to atack athenian naval bases along the coast of ionia. Athens scrambles, force the spartans into major batle of the coast of lesbos. In this batle of the coast in 406, the athenians win. But the athenians were very happy with the victory, but for them it doesn"t mater much.
