Eldest son (hannibal) decides he"s going to avenge his father and deal with saguntum. Besieges saguntum in 219 last date to know for the test. After a siege of 8 months saguntum falls. Romans figure they"re going to fight the war in spain. Get a giant army together and send it to massilia: problem is that hannibal knew that that was what the romans were going to do, he does the unexpected, goes north across the alps in winter, 20k infantry, 6k cavalry, 37 elephants: by the time the romans get to massilia, he"s already gone by, as a result he lost half his army getting over the alps, also elephants. Arrives in the north of italy, cisalpine gaul, the gauls join him. Romans get another army together and send it north, first battle in. Hannibal defeats the roman cavalry, rome withdraws. He carries on south, later the same year, battle of trebia: he ambushes them and kills 30k romans.
