This is a program of proactive measure designed to. Increase representation of people from the four designated groups in workplace to a level that re ects their availability in the labour market. Identify and eliminate arti cial barriers in the workplace that prevent designated group members from accessing jobs, promotion, training. The designated groups are : woman, visible minorities , people with disabilities, aboriginal people. Fair = prerequisites ; fair has changed over time. Unfair - women weren"t allowed to be police of cers (this used to be a fair requirement back in the days) Because it recognizes that designated people are held back because of things that are unrelated to their ability . Some systems are designed to exclude some people ; employment equity gets rid of this. Equality vs equity - equality everyone is given the same thing ; equity is where you distribute via peoples needs ; basically treating everyone fairly.
