Document Summary

Aging = time related deterioration of the physiology fxns necessary for survival and fertility. Aging process - how long an organism lives and senescence. Life expectancy = average length of time a given individual of a species to live. Life span = longest an individual of one species has lived. Senescence = deterioration with time in cellular and physiological sense (epi)genetic and environmental components. Another graph thing, life expectancy of humans getting older. You want to be fertile at the expense of you personal niceness. Usually when an organism is no longer fertile --> it dies. Parts wear out, use it you lose it. Lots of different theories but these main two. The twins example with the 3 year old twins vs the 50 year old ones. Methylation of the estrogen receptor gene occurs as a function of normal aging. Some genes are more exposed and prone than others. Theses changes can results in defects that cause aging.
