Document Summary

Epidemiology: branch of medicine that describes the occurrence, distribution, and types of diseases in populations for distinct time periods. The study of who, what, when, where, and how as they relate to outbreaks of infectious diseases. Infectious disease: disease caused by an infectious agent (ie. common cold) Subclinical disease: state in which the infection caused tissue damage, but with no clinical signs or symptoms (asymptomatic) Screening tests are used to identify these individuals. Contagious disease: direct or indirect transmission from an infected person (ie. in uenza/ u) Transmissible disease: transmission by non-natural means from an infected person (ie. food intoxication/s. aureus: measures of the occurrence of a disease. Type of incidence applied to a population that is observed over a de ned time period. Measure of the risk of developing the disease. Ci = number of new cases of the disease / population at risk. Numerator: people who got infected after case was started (new cases, pre-existing are not included)
