Document Summary

Species are de ned by reproductive compatibilities - macroorganisms that produce sexually. Great majority of microorganism reproduce asexually but a few produce sexually. Microbes resulting from a unique individual - strains. Different strains throughout the same species are biotypes. Biotypes are strains that are biochemically different. Morphotypes - strains with different morphology when there"s a population of cells. Serotypes - strains that have different antigens. Pathotypes- this is a disease-causing variant of a microorganism distinguishable from other members of its species by its virulence ; one variety doesn"t cause a disease while the other variety kills the individual. Binomial nomenclature- giving two names to an organism ; genus and species. Cell shape and growing - microorganisms group with one another in different patterns. Structure of the cell wall- all bacteria have a cell wall except mycoplasmia. All plasma membrane are composed of lipids. Depending on the bacteria, the cell wall can differ.
