Document Summary

Lifespan of a t cell which is actively replicating hiv: 2. 2 days. Hiv following infection will integrate into the genome and will typically wait for the host cell to be activated by any antigen and will replicate in those activated cells. Following infection of hiv the virus will infect cd4 cells and will have a dramatic drop in cd4 cells. Will see an increase in the number of hiv cells. Immune system is not attached to the hiv or the hiv infected cells. By 3 weeks the immune system has had time to mount a response to hiv. Once the system has been activated both the humoral and cell mediated response will attack and their will be a drop in viral particles. Given that the immune system is taking control, the number of cd4 cells will increase again. During this period you are able to detect antibodies against the antigen in the individual.
