Natural selection is a means by which evolution happens. Genetic drift is a process by which change does not follow beneficial adaptations. Organic chemicals, fermentation, respiration, weaker and more complex processes. Dependent on temperature range of materials eg nitrogen and iron. Narrow range - freezing and boiling of water (water a key element for most organisms) All organisms share a narrow range of materials and processes while designed items are made of a great variety of materials. Evolution is modification through descent, modifies the existing ancestor. Most species have a limited lifespan, ~5my million years. Lots of extinct species of horses, most of the tree. Eg oldest horse fossils resemble modern horses the least. Eg echinoderms looked really weird compared to the modern ones. Long succession of change of flora and fauna. Major groups succeed one another through evolutionary time. Cenozoic - placental mammals, birds and flowering plants. Evidence of remains of organisms resembling modern bacteria.
