Eg the grizzly bear with small are isolates that may be too small themselves, each fragment is isolated. More area destroyed --> faster and faster species extinction. As a habitat declines, further habitat loss has increasingly large effects on extinction rates. Small area return in conservation means a good amount of conservation. Large amount of area loss means huge loss in species. Hard to protect the areas and keep it actually protected. Erosion of biological diversity happens as fast as if there were no protection. Can observe the infered extinction (blue), recorded extinction (green) Went from lots of rainforest to mostly just a really big urban place. Pollution usually degrades does not completely destroy ( unlike the acid rains) Ld50 testing old estimates but now learned you can kill them in subtle ways. Very bad for aquatic and high trophic levels. Reproduces like crazy, needs low energy to survive, nest predator.
