Release of voc by plants depending on what is attacking. In agriculture, plants have great defense mechanisms, but harvesting machines make it so that plants need to be planted in rows. Laying of the eggs like by insect eggs, Hawkmoths laying eggs, spend less time on damaged plants. Found which vocs affect the oviposition the most. Was the exclusive night time compounds that was most effective. More cost effective to just produce at night when moths are mostly awake. Actively targets vulnerable eggs with specific vocs at specific time. Plants directly affected herbivores in the level up of trophic interactions. Plants indirectly affected it, but it is the top predators actually directly affecting the herbivore. Plant produces vocs to attract parasites or other predators. Anti herbivore response of plants can be induced through application of biochemicals. In experiment, in induced, the wasp pupae and infected caterpillars increased. Plants can also identify specific herbivores and release chemical attractants for species-specific predators.
