Topic 1 : introdu(cid:272)tion to (cid:272)ell (cid:271)iolog(cid:455) and the (cid:272)ell"s features. Define the different features, organelles and explain rhe roles/functions for each. Understand different types of microscopy and their requirements for use in cell biology. Robert hooke, first one to put together an aparatus, to look at something very small called a microscope. He looked at cork, and saw that everything was organized. Essentially what he was looking at was dead plants, and their cell wall. It took 200 (cid:455)ears of o(cid:271)ser(cid:448)atio(cid:374)s a(cid:374)d gathei(cid:374)g data the smallest structural and functional unit of an organism, typically microscopic and consisting of cytoplasm and a nucleus enclosed in a membrane. Microscopic organisms typically consist of a single cell, which is either eukaryotic or prokaryotic. No machinery to produce protein on their own. No metablism, no energy to sustain on their own. All organisms are composed of one or more cells.
