Document Summary
Protista: includes several groups of unicellular eukaryotes. Monera: inclusive category for all the bacteria, includes all prokaryotes. The difference between the three major kingdoms are the methods of obtaining nutrients. First organism was ingesting heterotroph (photosynthesis was a derived characteristic) Eubacteria: cell qall: peptidoglycan, plasma membrane: unbranched with ester links, operon genes, translation: simple rna polymerase, no nuclear envelope, circular chromosome, no dna/histones, 1st amino acid: formylmethione. Archea: cell wall: no peptidoglycan, plasma membrane: branched with ether links, operon genes, translation: complex rna polymerase, circular chromosome, has dna/histones, 1st amino acid: mehionine. Main differences between the two are cell wall, plasma membrane finish. Eukarya: protista, animalia, plantae, fungi (eu -> distinct in what we know what they are) Not a good way of defining bacteria because the physical features don"t define them. Dna is coiled up -> contains nuclear material of cell: pili, plamid. Floating around in cytoplasm waiting for information to make proteins: capsule.
