Charles lyell: he saw that in some layers fossils were small in others they were big, he proposed that change took place over millions of years not just thousands, he worked on th eorck cycle and carbon cycle. Co2 in ocean = co2 in atmosphere so if a salt is present it forms a rock which then sinks to the dpths of the ocean making limestons. Wagner: came up with the theory of continenta drift but he was largely ignored at that time.
