Document Summary

Erasmus darwin: charles" grandfather, translated linnaeus to english, wrote zoonomia mostly about medicine, wrote a poem that says life originated in the ocean and then spread. Cuvier: father of comparative biology, he collected fossils and noticed htey had similarities to present organsims, he says that there is a massive disappearance of species, extinction and catastrophes. Charles lyell: he saw that in some layers fossils were small in others they were big, he proposed that change took place over millions of years not just thousands, he worked on th eorck cycle and carbon cycle. Co2 in ocean = co2 in atmosphere so if a salt is present it forms a rock which then sinks to the dpths of the ocean making limestons. Wagner: came up with the theory of continenta drift but he was largely ignored at that time.
