History of biology: adams gives us an alternative view on the history or science - based on the tools. Predarwinian: hippocrates(460-370bce) - he collected an collated from around the greek civilization, the writings, works and publications of every physician around. He himself was a physician but collected others" findings. Hippocratic corpus; a massive collection on human disease and healing. This could then be distributed to other physicians. He turned medicine into it"s own philosophy, the only science that had risen to that point. He gives us human biology: aristotle(384-322) - as the greeks had traveled around the world they had seen many different types of plants and animals. They found out their was a lot of different organisms out there and they catalogued them. Aristotle took these big lists and saw trends, then tried to group them together and organize the living world. He realized there are living things and non-living things.
