Document Summary
Intercellular matrix: sensed in one cell reacted to in another, can be signals from the environment (ex: light, temp, chemicals) Signal transduction: signal must be present and perceived by the cell (the cell must have a receptor to receive that signal, transduction pathway through signaling cascade, response (usually protein synthesis) Recepton by a cell-surface receptor: signal molecules, hormones, neurotransmitters, receptors. Integral membrane proteins: responses, rapid, short lived, signal binds on the outside of the cell to change the inside. Reception by a receptor with in the cell: signal molecules, steroid hormones, testosterone, estrogen. Intracellular receptors: steroid hormone receptors, hormone-binding domain and dna binding domain, when one domain is activated it activates a second dna binding domain. Monday october 28, 2013: responses occur over a longer period of time, signal must be hydrophobic to get across the membrane using simple diffusion to be received inside the cell.
