Document Summary

History of biodiversity on the face of the planet. Planet and solar system is approximately 4. 6 to 3. 8 billion years old. In between, planet is in a molten state: still forming. Bombarded by meteorites: friction and impact cause it to go back into a molten state of magma. Really talking about the formation of the solar system. When this stops, earth begins to cool, crust begins to form, water begins to appear. Atmosphere forms and is held in place. Water is condensing in the atmosphere and falling onto the planet. First forms of life appear in this water (at the very end of this period) Very first life forms that make an appearance come in the next period (bacteria) Life creates energy by using proton gradients creation of atp (capture energy so you can use it to do stuff) Bacteria doing this at this time are anaerobic: there"s no oxygen in the environment yet.
