ANT 2103 Lecture 1: April 8
Document Summary
Social learning theory: imitate media, video games etc: kids see, kids do, this doesn"t work, plenty of people witness violence without becoming violent themselves, not everyone does what they see. Resource theory: social, political, economic-education: resources you have (economic, social) can make you more prone to violence. Exchange theory: if one person is violent the other will be: retaliation, one person uses violence, another retaliates with violence. It becomes a desperate event (c), it produces the crisis: do we need to sell the house, do we need to find a new job, what do we do? (x) Major life transitions: birth, divorce, death: big three: birth, life, death, retirement, loss, divorce, etc, major markers and stress points. Chronic stressors: addictions, poverty, illness-constantly having to cope: family never gets relief from these. Occasional stresses: non-chronic illnesses, accidents: short-term sickness (cold and flue), accidents, something that impairs normal functioning of household.
