Solvent higher amount dissolving medium in our bodies water is the solvent. Solutes stuff that"s being dissolved in the solvent. Ex: na + , k+ - both used in nerve impulses. When ions are dissolved in water they are called electrolytes. The concentration of protein is high inside body cells because: Cells are constantly building and repairing themselves with protein. There is a high concentration of hco3- in the plasma because- Carbon dioxide waste from body cells is carried in the plasma in the form of hco3-. 2 types of membrane: semi-permeable membrane: allows water and small molecules to pass through easily, selectively permeable membrane: Allows nutrient molecules into cell but stops undesirable molecules or ions from entering. Allows waste molecules or undesirable ions to pass out of cell but prevents valuable cell proteins from leaving cell. Passive transport molecules move across plasma membrane without energy output from cell. There are 2 types of passive transport diffusion & filtration.
