Concerned with power, distribution of economic and social resources, differential positions of groups in society. Gender is a complex social, historical, and cultural product. Gender orders social life and social institutions in basic ways. Masculinity and femininity are based on men"s superiority and social and political - economic dominance over women. Criminal justice system is inherently sexist, dominated by men. Women ignored in criminology because of low (especially violent) female crime rates. Knowledge production is gendered, reflecting men"s views of the natural and social world. Women should be at the centre of analyses - no treated a peripheral subjects or based on their relationship to men. Focus on individual rights and freedoms, women should have equal rights. Female criminality is a consequence of the patriarchal division of labour. Historical exclusion of women from political, social, economic spheres.
