Learned helplessness in humans: similarity between learned helplessness and loss of control, hiroto (1974): subjects were exposed to loud bursts of inescapable or escapable noise. Inescapable noise retarded learning of a subsequently novel response which would terminate noise. One time failure or always happens: most helpless and depressing style: internal, stable, global. Positive effects of stress: stress tolerance: increase ability to cope with adverse situations, get motivated small amounts of stress can be good for getting work done.
