PSYC 319 Lecture Notes - Lecture 15: Human Nature, Rank, Scientific Management
Document Summary
Power is contingent of knowledge, and vice versa. People who are in power, tend to have greater influences in establishing bodies, . More thoroughly can we understand it, seize it, control it. The more we know, the more power we have. The more we can control the object of investigation. And foucault sees the object of investigation as the nature. Human nature was an object of psychological investigation. So there is this kind of double sense. The body is intelligible, as well as a useful object. Branches of knowledge are disciplines (such as academic disciplines) In one hand, we have this appeal in the very discipline itself knowledge! They are somehow constructed by obeying in the norms of the discipline. Other hand, discipline has a lot to do with power! Of getting people to self restrain, conform, behave, obey. There is some form of mechanism that is linking increased utility of body with increased subjective.
