What is abnormal: dsm-5: widely accepted system for diagnosing and describing mental disorders, the word abnormal (and the notion of abnormality) is a point of contention and controversy in psychology and society, definitions of abnormality: Statistical infrequency (2+ sds above or below mean). Labelling helpful in some settings, but can be stigmatizing. There is a growing consensus that there exists no sharp dividing line between psychopathology and normal variation.
