Some did not expect alcohol and got it, some expected alcohol and didn"t get it and vice versa. With those who expected tonic- saw a difference in the physiological effects if they got alcohol or not. Those who expected alcohol- saw same physiological effects associated with alcohol regardless of whether they got it or not. Reduce anxiety but impair memory and judgement. Distorts perceptions, evokes sensory image in absence of sensory input. Regulates brain activity, appetite ( munchies ), arousal (feel dozy), memory, attention. Problems- not a lot of testing done (illegal), do not know how it affects unmyelinated neurons in developing adolescent brains. Neurotransmitters altered by drugs can have long term effects. Lsd- lysergic acid diethylamide, may interact with serotonin pathways.
