Document Summary

Consciousness is the awareness of internal and external stimuli. My heart is racing and i"m starting to sweat . Self as the unique being have these experiences. I"m going to make a fool of myself . Lower level of consciousness: automatic processing (example driving), daydreaming. Example: priming effects, much sensory info we encounter. Vegetative state: seems like the person is unconscious, however, the person can respond to questions using specific cues. Rub your head and pat your tummy. Clicker: the corpus callosum connects the two hemispheres of the brain. Sensory inputs are still crossed, motor outputs are still crossed, the hemispheres cannot communicate. Inattentional blindness: a failure to perceive an event when attention is diverted elsewhere, sights unseen. There"s a constant blind spot in your vision. Also, the image on your retina is 2d, but you perceive the world in 3d. The goal of conscious access isn"t truth, but usefulness.
