Connects cerebellum to the rest of the brain. If u hear a noise, orient you towards the sound. Receives info from the senses (except for smell) and other subcortial areas. When you sleep, not going to keep you conscious of everything, it weights the signal and turns it off while sleep. Regulates body temp, hunger, thirst, and sexual behavior. Every lever press a small amount of current will stimulate the hypothalamus. Damage: new info will only be remembered for a few seconds. Formation of emotional memories: attaches emotional significance to neutral events. It stimulates the hippocampus: to recognize these events in the future.
