Ways of knowing: intuition -- gut feeling, instinct. E. g. truthiness -- stephen colbert (whatever you feel to be true) Subject to prejudices and misconceptions (instincts can be bias: experience -- direct interactions. May not be representative of all possible experiences: common sense/ folk wisdom -- knowledge or beliefs common to a society. Often contradictory: authority -- listening from a powerful person/ group as source of knowledge. Reduces the need to acquire info ourselves. May rely on authority" intuition and experiences: logic -- reasoning through specific rules. Premises may be wrong (e. g. phrenology: scientific method -- a procedure for determining the truth through empirical evidence. Iterative method (several trials to end up with right info) Can be inspired by other ways of knowing. Ex: person play lot of grand theft auto -- later arrested for starting a fight experience. What do we know so far: how do we answer our question, theory -- an explanation of something that happens.
