There aren"t a lot of archaeological evidence for babylon --> this was due to water logging as much of the trenches were filled with water. Hammurabi (1792-1750 bce) --> ruled over babylonia (originally sumer, Akkad and ur iii), he was the first king of the old babylonian period (lasted until 1595 bce), also gave rise to the city"s major successes and it"s prominence. Had a very long reign --> the beginning of his reign was focused on improving the area of babylon (i. e. by building temples for. Marduk - a new amorite god which is the patron deity of the city, as well as making sure his irrigation canals were well maintained/developing them), then in the second part of his reign he began conquering other kingdoms.
