KIN 361 Lecture Notes - Lecture 9: Acetabular Labrum, Pubic Symphysis, Pubic Tubercle
Document Summary
Head of the femur: top portion of the femur. Anatomical neck: weakest point of the long bone. Acetabular labrum future: ring of cartilage that surrounds the acetabulum, acetabulum is the socket of the hipbone where the femur inserts into, vulnerable for tears. Pubic symphysis: location: off to the side, you will see 2 bumps, this is a sign of an apophysis in a prepubertal person, origin insertion of the abductor muscles, pre and post pubital athletes have issues here. Its shape, which is curved, exposes the coccyx when we fall: women can sublux this during birthing which causes lumbar low back pain for many years. It can be a problem and usually manifests itself with muscle spasms in the lower back. Iliac crest: hip pointers, not a serious injury but incredibly deabilitating. Notice the winding of the joint capsul, tightens with extension of the hip joint.
