GEOG 311 Lecture Notes - Lecture 14: 2Degrees, Energy Cities, Heat Flux
Document Summary
When air mixes with the rougness (the rough infrastructure) of cities --> increases the mixing of heat, water and trace gases in the atmosphere. This affects the wind and speed/direction of the cities. Roughness causes the air that flows through the city to be. Mixed/turbulent --> causes that atmospheric air to be mixed. Changes in the energy exchange between surface and atmosphere are caused by alterations to heat storage, limited water availability, and the release of anthropogenic heat --> this affects temperature and moisture in the city. Surface energy exchange between all of the surfaces that make up the urban sphere. Surface forcing: the measure of influence that a factor has in altering the balance of incoming and outgoing energy in the earth-atmosphere system. Positive forcing --> more incoming energy, which would warm the planet. Negative forcing --> more outgoing energy, which would cool the planet.
