Document Summary

Cities and climate --> urban surfaces affect local, regional and global atmospheric processes and climates. Changed weather/climate affects infrastructure and health + safety in cities. Also affects how people feel inside the city and in different parts (e. g. air flow) The urban-atmosphere interface: essentially when the state and the dynamics of the atmosphere in the lowest 1-3km is directly influenced by the presence of cities + human settlements. The dynamics of the lowest part of the atmosphere (e. g. the boundary layer), which absorbs the characteristic of the surface. Urban boundary layer: the interaction between the urban surface and the overlying atmosphere. It responds to surface changes with a timescale of about an hour or less (thus things change rapidly) The urban boundary layer is surface atmospheric layer when air flows over the city, and responds to urban surface. Takes up what is emitted from the city, includes all it"s characteristics.
