GEOB 270 Lecture Notes - Lecture 13: Statistical Model, Land Values, Process Modeling
Document Summary
Gis and models: two distinct context within which the word model is used in world of gis. Data model set of expectations about the data(a template) Process model representations of phenomena in the real world. Topographic maps and aerial phos are examples of models: reproduce certain feature in a scaled-down model. Visual model: no inherent analytical qualities, used to answer some basic questions: analogue models natural: Old landscapes predict future form of present landscapes(desertification, over-exploitation of the landscape through grazing) Use a historical process to create an analogy of what could happen in our study area. Understand landscape in one locale helps in understanding process and form in another place: e. g study avalanche formation in one area, extrapolate results to other areas with similar conditions. Conceptual models: usually expressed in graphic/verbal form, describe in words or pictures, the quantitative and qualitative interactions between real world features, first step in developi(cid:374)g digital spatial pro(cid:272)ess (cid:373)odel(cid:859)
