Under imperial period, they become controlled by the emperor himself. Places where these gladiator games took place. When they were used for these funerals, in the republican period, the place where they were held was in the forum. Earliest place was in a cattle market. There are balconies, or the steps of the temple . There were also temporary structures set up, temporary seating. In the earliest period, was probably rudimentary markings, but as they got more and more elaborate, got more need for a fancier set of setting. Now, although the seating was temporary, but it was very elaborate. Luxurious materials point/conspicuous consumption was that you could set up these very fancy, lux seatings, and deconstruct them afterwards. 45-46 bce caesar"s tunnels were used to bring animals up into temporary arena, as well as maybe, some gladiators. There, in the middle, there were subterranean tunnels. Julius casear built a temporary wooden amphitheatre in 46 bce.
