Document Summary

Norepinephrine is released and binds to different receptors (adrenergic receptors) Receptors have different roles e. g. could result in dilation/constriction of vessels. Acetylcholine targets a muscuronic receptor (specific to parasympathetic system) Decreased heart rate, stroke volume and blood pressure. Relaxation of sphincters in esophagus, stomach, bladder. Originate inside cranium and proximal spinal cord. Mnemonic for 12 cranial nerves: ooottafvgvah: olfactory: sensory - sense of smell. Oculomotor: motor - voluntary, moves eyeball medially; motor (autonomic [parasymp], involuntary) - constricts pupil & thickens lens. V. trigeminal: motor - voluntary, mastication; sensory - touch, temperature, pain, etc. from face, head, mouth. Abducens: motor - moves eyeball laterally (opposite to iii) Mlf (medial longitudinal fasciculus): tract connecting iii nerve nucleus to vi nerve nucleus. Tract: bundle of axons travelling together from nucleus to somewhere else in the cns. Facial: motor - voluntary, muscles of facial expression; motor - (autonomic [parasymp], involuntary), lacrimal and salivary glands, sensory, taste (taste buds of ant. (cid:1152) of tongue)
