A way of thinking and nding out info about the world (systematic) Each method can only tell you about things to a certain extent. Objectivity - outsider perspective (etic) ( expert over the group they are studying) Subject does not have a voice, besides what the outsider deems to be relevant. August comte ([logical] positivism) - coined the term sociology. We could use objective methods (use traditional science methods and apply them to social sciences) Healthy skepticism (looking for evidence that contradicts the hypothesis) Understand the social perspective from those you are studying (their interpretation) Verstehen - having an empathetic understanding (put yourself into another persons shoes) Must enter their setting and have lived expirience. Exp - idiomatic expressions ( bark up the wrong tree , adding fuel to the re , clean as a whistle , as easy as pie ) Descriptive - describe who, when, where or how.
