• Define and explain the different sectors/services that make up the tourism industry

1. Introduction
• Analysis of tourism sector has focused on two issues: demand for tourism products and
supply of tourism products
• “Tourism supply is the result of those productive activities that involve the production of
goods and services required to meet tourism demand and which are expressed in tourism
consumption” (Sessa 1983:59)

• While tourists are mobile what can be termed as tourism supply is fixed at specific points
in geographical space and time
• Tourism supply is important as it shows how the tourism industry is organized and
distributed
• Also helps to understand tourism policies and planning procedures, frameworks and
regulation issues
