Document Summary

Visible light is a small subset of the electromagnetic radiation. It is a door way to perception and hard to see what you are not looking at. The retina is not homogenous: fovea (cones to rods), blind spot. Photoreceptors are in the back: rods and cones. Some exceptions: graded potentials (not all or none; its proportional), dark depolarizes (lightness hyperpolarizes) Ganglion cells in the retina are where the spiking starts. Different colours different cones different opsins. : trichromatic theory (retina)(hard to explain), opponent processing (both theories are correct in their own domain. Dorsal stream is the where pathway, location in space. 25% brain is for visual processing, ventral stream is the what pathway, complex images of familiar objects these labels hide a great deal of complexity. Functional and anatomical modularity demonstrations of specialization for processing of object categories. Physical view: light energy to neuronal activation patterns. Perceptual view: on-off cells to mach bands and optical illusions.
