LS366 Lecture 1: Introduction to Global Governance
Document Summary
Ls 366 - january 07 - welcome notes. Governance: an agreement on how we can relate to each other. An observable phenomenon complex set of structures and processes, public and private, multi-scalar includes wide range of actors that seek to regulate social affairs. A normative paradigm set of beliefs about how we should respond to challenges range of both formal/informal values, norms, practices, and institutions that provide order. Prefigurative potential: our attitudes, beliefs, worldviews and social relations contain within prefigurative potential the way in which we (1) relate to one another (2) govern our institutions (3) perpetuate social norms (4) make collective decisions. It is not enough to come up with abstract theories about equality of all people, if we then institutionalized forms of social and economic hierarchy which privileged some at the expense of others.
