Receives messages from other neurons or sensory receptors. Form branches/axon terminals that send messages at synapses with other neurons or muscle/gland cells. Allows more neurons to be packed in small area. Provide structural support and protection, waste removal, and nutrients for neurons. New formed neurons that can multiply (neurogenesis)
