Biology lecture 25: strictly speaking law of segregation applies only to genes on different non homologous chromosomes. In 9:3:3:1 ratio, 9 plants tall and purple, 3 white and tall, 3 short and purple, and 1 short and white. In total we will have 12 purple plants to 4 short plants which is a 3:1 ratio. Inheritance pattern more complex: relation btwn genotype and phenotype is rarely as simple as in pea plant characters. Mendel studied: most heritable characters are not determined by only one gene with two alleles.
