Various sources: from our own experiences; offending or victimization patterns of what we did (experiences in any way wih crime), informs people and form ideas, mass media shapes most concepts around youth crime definition. Movies, films, radio, hardcopies, newspapers (all spread info) More sophisticated and diverse; in the past it was books to radio to tv to cable. Sociologists ask: does it address the crime; serves public function to provide info, media is profit driven so are they more interested in making big audiences through manipulating the public to see youth crimes differently. Sensationalist stories; distorts the image of crime; presented in more violent or serious ways in the media than the statistics prove- reality is property theft under 5000 is the most happening crime however is overlooked.
