Labeling theorists study how people perceive the action (smoking: the steps that lead individuals to be label in a particular way, and how they reject or adopt that label. Labeling theory: how are deviant labels applied, what are the consequences, how to labels affect out perception of self, primary deviance. It ages; most of us have done something that is seen as deviant to others: actions that are seen as deviant but haven"t really affected us/ no societal reaction ex. Getting to drunk last night (that"s it: 1 time things ex. Caught smoking drugs and got 1 night in jail but then that"s it: secondary deviance, the effect that society has on us, ex. Visible tattoos, physical disabilities, height, weight, hair colour, etc. Deviance like beauty is in the eye of the beholder; the way that people react to it and respond to it is important.
