SOC 1100 Lecture 3: Religion in Canada
Document Summary
In this article, reginald bibby emphasizes that canadians can be influenced by religious interests and beliefs by focusing on religious attendance. The structural-functional perspective is visible in this article as we see scientific sociology, seen with changes, and how the article is backed up by quantitative data such as accurate percentages based on surveys and data collected from canadians. From the mid-1900"s to the late 1900"s attendance at religious gatherings dropped significantly (macionis and gerber, 2011, p. 471). Canadians still believed in religion (macionis and gerber, 2011, p. 471). People may have changed religious beliefs but still maintained some form of faith. During that period of time, several people switched into christianity, however, people did not switch between christian categories (macionis and gerber, 2011, p. 471). From this study, we can see a social behavior pattern that is stable and this is what we see in a social structure.
