Physical proximity plays a large role in attraction and relationship formation. We like those who are physically attractive tend to fall in love with those who are physically attractive. We like others who are similar to us in terms of physical, psychological and demographic factors (socio- economic state, religion etc. ) Weighing pros and cons for a romantic relationship. Research shows that people often desire romantic partners who share similar characteristics and who live in close proximity. Decoy effect: once there is a distractor the decision moves to the option which is superior to the distractor. Decoy effect or asymmetric dominance effect: occurs when two options are presented, each of which will appeal to some people. Reinforcement theories and the three facts regarding attraction: proximity increases the chances of classical conditioning. It was pleasant to look at attractive people. We associate the pleasant feeling with the attractive person: similar people confirm our views.
