PSYC 1000 Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Replication Crisis, Knowledge Mobilization, Secondary Source
Document Summary
Knowledge generation and mobilization in psychology (part 2) Based on measurements that are objective, valid, and reliable: objective: the measure of an entity or behavior that, within a margin of error, is consistent across instruments and observers. Can never assume that a measurement is perfect, always has error, how much error can we tolerate: variables refers to the object, concept, or event being measured e. g. number of drinks consumed. Physiological measure (e. g. measuring a persons breathe for number of drinks: reliable: when a measure provides consistent and stable answers across multiple observations and points in time. No, we use random sampling and the best people to represent. Instead, unobstructive measure (natural observation), anonymity (answers are recorder without any reflection on that individual), confidentiality (results only seen by researcher) It can be replicated: the process of repeating a study and finding a similar outcome each time, must also be consistent, this is the golden rule for research.
