What are typical variations of consciousness: automatic variations: such as daydreaming, drowsiness, sleep and dreams, physiological variations: such as hallucinations, lack of oxygen, orgasms, psychological variations: such as sensory deprivation, hypnosis, mindfulness meditation. Rhythms of sleep: approximately every 90 minutes we pass though five stages of sleep, these stages are associated with different brain waves, vary in frequency and amplitude, brain waves are measured with an electroencephalogram (eeg) Awake and active: beta waves; high frequency, low amplitude, these waves are often irregular waves. Awake and calm: alpha waves: relatively high frequency and ow amplitude, but less frequent and more amplitude than beta waves, more regular thats beta waves.
