What are some normally occurring variations of consciousness? (sleep and dreams) We all spend most of our night sleeping (approx. 7 hours), but we can move in and out of consciousness by being aware to differing degrees of your surroundings. Pace of 90 minutes: approximately every 90 minutes we pass through five stages of sleep. These stages are associated with different brain waves: vary in frequency & amplitude. Brain waves are measured with an electroencephalogram (eeg)
