NUTR 1010 Lecture Notes - Lecture 23: Xerostomia, Celery, Hypothalamus
Document Summary
Molecules that are far enough apart that they can slide past each other. Our bodies are 60% fluid, though we lose fluid content as we get older. Positively and negatively charged ions that are dissolved in water. Dissolved mineral- ions with both positive and negative charge. This charge allows them to do what they do. Sodium, potassium, chloride, phosphorus(in hydrogen phosphatase) and calcium. Carbohydrates, amino acids, water soluble vitamins, minerals, medications. Fat-soluble substances do not dissolve in fluids, but transported with the help of proteins. Being made of mostly water helps us keep cool. Water is often needed to break 2 molecules apart- hydrolysis. Water is often released when 2 molecules are joined together- condensation. When your core temperature rises, your blood is warming up. The water from sweat evaporates into the air, and through sweat, heat is carried out of body.
